why on earth doesn’t american ballet theatre have a youtube channel anyway? every other major ballet company in america (or maybe the whole wide world or the entire universe) has a youtube channel. i don’t get it. why?! meanwhile, they hide their occasional videos somewhere deep in their website where no one will actually ever see them unless they search the site with a fine toothed comb. well, they do send them in the emails if you subscribe, but that’s hardly going to draw in new audience members, now is it?! i suppose there is probably a silly legal reason or some union nonsense but surely there must be a loophole?
however, i am sort of willing to forgive their lack of youtubeness as ABT presently has a documentary in the works! (okay, i’m lying- i still hate that they don’t have a youtube channel). but i’m not lying about the upcoming documentary. i can’t wait! but unfortunately i shall have to, as it is not coming out until 2015.
ABT’s On Pointe newsletter for subscribers gave a little bit of information on the documentary which i was intending to quote here but ….i don’t know what i did with the newsletter. it’s in my house somewhere, i’m sure, but …… sometimes i am just a tiny bit very extremely disorganized. so i’m hardly spewing out a wealth of knowledge on the subject but i do know that it is being made by ric burns and will air in 2015 on PBS. also, it seems they filmed a bit of it at kaatsbaan in upstate new york earlier this month.
here are a few photos that i am borrowing without permission from some of the dancers public instagram feeds. ; ) i’m pretty sure most of them were taken at the kaatsbaan shoot, although i don’t 100% guarantee it.
